Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 September 2026
Gufchat is a chat app operated by Bigyan Rijal (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, and how you can ask us to delete it. The public website, web app, and Android app all use this policy.
Who this app is for
Gufchat is for people who want to message friends and family. It is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account for a child under 13.
Information we collect
- Account: name, Gmail address, Nepal mobile number, and password (stored as a hash, not in plain text). If you use Google Sign-In we receive your Google name and email.
- Profile: optional avatar photo.
- Messages: text, photos, videos, voice notes, files, and call records you send in chats.
- Friends and contacts you type: phone numbers you search or invite. We do not upload your whole phone address book unless you type a number yourself.
- Calls: we store that a call happened (who, time, duration, audio or video). Live camera and microphone audio go between devices with WebRTC. We do not keep a recording of the live call itself.
- Status: online / last seen, typing indicators, and whether you blocked someone.
- Reports: if you report a user or message, we keep that report so we can review it.
- Technical: IP address, device type, and app version as needed to run the service, stop abuse, and keep you signed in.
How we use it
- Create and secure your account
- Deliver chats, media, and calls
- Show friends, online status, and notifications
- Send password-reset and important account emails
- Keep the service working and stop spam or abuse
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show third-party ads in Gufchat.
Where it is stored
Account data, messages, and media are stored on our Gufchat servers. Call video and voice travel device-to-device when possible. Signalling (ringing, accept, hang up) goes through our servers.
Sharing
We share data only:
- with the people you chat with (they see what you send)
- with Google, if you choose Google Sign-In
- if the law requires it, or to protect users from serious harm
Permissions on Android
The Android app may ask for camera, microphone, photos, and notifications. Camera and microphone are used for calls and for sending photos or voice notes. You can refuse a permission; that feature will not work until you allow it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and chats while the account is open. If you delete a message or we remove an account, we delete or hide that content from the app. Backups may exist for a short time.
Your choices
- Edit your name, photo, and password in the app
- Block other users
- Request full account and data deletion at gufchat.com/delete-account
- Or email us to close your account
Security
We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, and access controls. No internet service is perfectly secure. Do not share your password.
